WHITE OUT

Tonight I will be setting the table to reflect the endless winter that continues to be upon us.  I am generally a huge fan of white regardless of the season - I love to add the calming tones of creams and whites to any occasion - but this winter I am ready to see the buds on the trees and some sun in the sky.  In the meantime, I will set a beautiful table for my family which sparks a lot of joy!

GINGERBREAD

Since having children, the holidays seem to be even more magical.  I have always loved the most wonderful time of the year, but seeing them through the eyes of my children brings a new appreciation to the true magic of Christmas and the Holiday season.

This year my mother and I decided to start a new tradition by hosting a gingerbread house decorating party with a few of our favorite friends.  My mom used to have an annual party for the neighborhood kids when we were growing up and it was so sweet to see her in action for my kids. 

Of course, she had to make the kids an apron for the task.  Handmade gingerbread houses were carefully assembled with a hot glue gun to hold the organic shapes securely together, and dozens of candies were spread out for decorating and tasting.

I look forward to this becoming an annual tradition.  What special traditions are you starting this holiday?

 

Autumn

I love the fall when pumpkin and squash flavors are back in the rotation in my kitchen.  Roasting fresh pumpkin seeds with a large dose of course sea salt, baking acorn squash with a hefty pad of butter and a pinch of brown sugar, or a butternut squash soup with a drizzle of basil oil and chopped hazelnuts.  This autumn I have been spending a lot of time in the kitchen working on ideas for gifting, menus, and tablescapes for the upcoming holiday season. It is bound to be a great one!
